George Harrison enlisted on the 24th July 1915 at Bunbury in Western Australia. He was employed as a lumper, and had previously served for three years with the 6th Battalion, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment. He stated his next of kin as his father, Leon Harrison, of Gordon Road, Tideswell, Derbyshire. Five feet eight inches tall, he weighed 155 pounds, had a dark complexion, hazel eyes and dark hair, and belonged to the Church of England. He had a birthmark above his navel.
